Classes - I am currently taking time this fall to attend to family medical issues, therefore classes are expected to resume over the winter. I will post a start date when it is set.
Private lessons are not available at this time.
Athens Dog Training currently offers outdoor group classes in the Athens/Albany Ohio area from spring to early fall, and indoor group classes in the Sharpsburg/Amesville area during the late fall and winter. I am currently unavailable for private lessons.
The next session of classes will be held indoors in Sharpsburg.
At this time, we offer Puppy Kindergarten and Basic Manners classes as well as an occasional AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class. All classes are a 6 week session for $90.
Puppy Kindergarten
This class is designed for puppies 6 months and under at the beginning of the session. You will learn how to deal with typical puppy behaviors such as mouthing, jumping up, and housetraining in addition to basic exercises such as sit, down, walking on a loose lead, and coming when called. Puppies will also begin to learn self control and attention to the handler. This class will allow puppies to interact on a limited basis with other puppies and select adult dogs. 6 classes for $90. Class size is limited to ensure individual attention. Please contact us or click here for an application. Classes will be on Thursday nights and will be from 6:30 - 7:15 pm. **Note - Puppy and Basic classes may be combined depending on enrollment and class needs,
Basic Manners
The Basic Manners class expands on the concepts in the Puppy Kindergarten class. Sit, down, walking politely and coming when called despite distractions will all be practiced. Self control will continue to be a focus as will attention to the handler. 6 classes for $90. Class size is limited to ensure individual attention. Please contact us or click here for an application. Class will be on Thursday nights, and will be from 7:30 - 8:15 pm. **Note - Puppy and Basic classes may be combined depending on enrollment and class needs.
AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) class
The CGC class is designed for dogs who have completed a Puppy or Basic class, or who have a good grasp of basic manners and commands. We build on these skills and emphasize the specific behaviors that are needed for the ten items on the CGC test. The first five nights are training and practice, and students may take the test on the sixth night for no additional fee. All dogs are eligible for the class and testing, both purebred and mixed breed, and do not need to be AKC registered. You can learn more about the CGC program here: AKC CGC. Class is held once in late summer and once in the winter if there is sufficient interest. Please contact us or click here for an application.
Competition Skills - Arranged
We do offer a class in competition skills on a limited basis. This class is geared to the competitive handler who is looking to improve precision in their obedience exercises at any level. We will discuss how to improve your score in the ring, AKC obedience rules, and break down exercises to maximize your scores; for young dogs, we will teach individual components of each exercise to facilitate understanding.
